Excellence and Poetic Spirit – Jianshui Teapot | Rust-colored, Matte Finished Clay with Traditional Inlay 150 ml

$ 98.41

Description STYLE Jing Lan is an old teapot shape formed by Chen Mansheng in the Qing Dynasty. The Jing Lan form is characterized by restrained elegance and a more meditative aesthetic. It has a stable body, a wide mouth, and a cylindrical mass, just as its name suggests: balanced and naturally proportioned, like the stone rim of a well. On one side we can see a banana leaf, a bamboo and a teapot. In Chinese pictography, bamboo is associated with the wind, while the banana leaf is connected to the rain. Bamboo is flexible yet strong, able to withstand the wind, it bends, but does not break. The banana leaf receives and softens the raindrops, evoking contemplation, poetic sensitivity, and inner peace. The unity of these two characters is realized through tea. On the other side the calligraphy refers to the harmony of quality life, poetic spirit and beauty. Jianshui is one of the four famous ceramic cities in China, mainly due to the artistic processing of coloured clays from local clay mines and the related ceramic crafts, as well as Yixing.  The township is in Yunnan, not far from Kunming. Jianshui pots, which are more robust than the Yixing pots, are thrown on a potter’s wheel. The unglazed pots, which shine brightly on the outside, are ‘breathing’ tea vessels with high heat retention. Their colour is usually eggplant black, rust brown, but they can also be light grey or yellow. These antique style vessels are “hard as iron, shiny as water, silky as jade, tinkling like a stone”.
